On Tuesday, President Biden signed into law the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). DOMA forces all states to recognize any marriage regardless of the gender or race of either member of the marriage. All states must recognize same-sex marriage as long as the marriage occurred in a state where same-sex marriage is legal.
The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) has been passed by the House, Senate, and signed by the Executive. This bill is a good example of Government working but is not as monumental as the left will have you believe. DOMA, rightfully, does not force private businesses (bakers, photographers, etc.) to serve same-sex couples if they have an objection to the marriage. DOMA is government working but doesn't change much for most Americans, including those in same sex marriages.
The passage of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is a historical moment that helps ensure that all Americans are treated equal regardless of gender, race, country of origin, and religion. 35 states currently ban same-sex marriage and the passage of DOMA will force those states to recognize same sex marriages as long as the origin of the marriage is a state that allows same-sex marriage.
