Both Sides: State of the Union

The Facts:

President Biden provided his 2023 State of the Union Address. The State of the Union is the annual address given by the President of the United States to Congress, in which the President reports on the condition of the country and outlines their legislative agenda for the coming year

The Right Bias

As is typically the case, Biden's time in the spotlight was spent fabricating the truth on what actually occurred. Biden played no part in ending the COVID pandemic, he did not curb the record level inflation, and he did not bring the country together. Additionally, the plans for the future were just sound bites that the Biden administration knew would score on the political scoreboard. Biden used this State of the Union to as springboard his 2024 reelection campaign which works out great for republicans. Biden's speech was a great example as to why we need to get out with the old (very old) and in with the new, the next Republican President.

Left Bias:

The State of the Union was a master class in how to play the unruly republican caucus. President Biden had the republicans jeering at times and cheering at others. President Biden brought up that a handful of Republicans want to cut Social Security and Medicare which received a ruckus and vocal dismissal from all the republicans including Speaker from the House. The President masterfully plaid the republican gallery's boos and shortly followed up with:

""So, folks, as we all apparently agree, Social Security and Medicare is off the books now. Right?”"

The speech was a great recap of the last 2-years of successes, a call to arms for everyone to work together to "finish the job", and a great demonstration on how unruly the republican caucus is.
